Alpine Unassailable

Unassailable

from £60.00

July 1865. Not until this date had the Matterhorn been conquered. Then, plucky British mountaineer Edward Wymper completed the assent, though it was his 6th attempt.

Until that date, The Matterhorn was thought to be unassailable. So many had tried, so many had failed and so many had perished in their attempts. The mountain was cursed, it was claimed. Even when it was finally conquered, the mountain claimed another 7 team lives on the way up…

This plucky British photographer faced way less peril in his conquest. Yet, The Matterhorn was incredibly uncooperative in my attempts to conquer getting an incredible image of the iconic peak. Days of cloud cover foiled all attempts and from different angles. Then, the day before I had to leave Switzerland, I took my car up to a promising viewpoint just at the snowline.

Finally, for a brief period, The Matterhorn revealed itself to me and it was as majestic, iconic and imposing as I’d hoped it would be.

Available in a limited edition of just 50 prints per size, be sure to get your signed and numbered edition before they’re gone forever.
